ChatGPT is trained on a diverse amount of information scraped off the internet before September 2021. Although working with limited information, the technology is still groundbreaking and provides new data to create even more technologoicaly advanced products.
History of OpenAI?ChatGPT was released on November 30, 2022 built off the GPT-3.5 architecture trained on information until September of 2021. Rapidly gaining users, ChatGPT amassed 100 million users by the end of the year.More recently OpenAI released GPT-4.0 on March 14, 2023 allowing for 175 billion parameters instead of GPT-3.5's 17 billion parameters. Microsoft has also released a version of ChatGPT running off GPT 4.0's Prometheus model allowing for web searches. ChatGPT is still relatively new, but it creates a pathway for more advancements and for new technological advancements to be made.
Advantage and disadvantages of ChatGPT?For normal users, ChatGPT can provide users with quick information on topics they wish to learn along with having conversations as if they were talking to a human. ChatGPT can also be used to provide ideas and create content because of its large extensive dataset. Some disavantages however would include misinformation as internet based training could result in false information being scraped. ChatGPT also struggles to maintain long term questions or keep context of convesations. ChatGPT also does not have emotional feelings as humans do so the responses might not be the correct response you want.
What safeguards are implemented to protect society?OpenAI has implemented lots of safeguards to keep everyone safe while using the product, including a two-step training process which first uses a large training set and then reviews a human made set to fine tune the information. OpenAI has also implemented content filtering to check for innapropriate information. More updates are always being added to patch bugs and improve user experience. ChatGPT is a very powerful tool that can help many people, but can also be used by the wrong people for the wrong things so releasing this carefully with the right safety procedures is very important.
